IT'S TIME TO VISIT TERRA DUBAI EXPO 2020'S SUSTAINABILITY PAVILION
Which would you choose if you had to choose between saving
the planet Earth and landing on Mars? Will you be willing to make changes in
your daily life in order to save a rainforest? Isn't this a conundrum? This is
also one of the many ways that Terra, Dubai Expo 2020's Sustainability
Pavilion, wants to inspire tourists to understand their interaction with the
world.
Terra Pavilion, designed by Grimshaw Architects of the United
Kingdom, boasts a huge canopy studded with over 1000 solar panels. These
contain a huge amount of energy, enough to fuel a car halfway to Mars! Terra is
at the forefront of futuristic science, with 18 energy trees that rotate and
collect energy from the sun's direction. It is expected to receive LEED
Platinum certification, which is the highest level of certification for
environmentally friendly architecture.
Not only that, but Terra aspires to be a Net Zero Energy and
Net Zero Water plant, rendering it a fully self-sufficient structure in the
desert. Its aim is to demonstrate that sustainability can be accomplished
anywhere and under any circumstances.
Terra's three key aims are to encourage people to pursue a
more natural way of life, to combat climate change, to use renewable energy
instead of fossil fuels, and to use water in more intelligent and sustainable
ways, among other things.
Terra is a place where you can observe our human interaction
with nature, as well as how rampant consumerism is preventing a perfect equilibrium
between the two. It provides an exploratory and immersive environment in which
you can stroll through rainforests, beaches, and natural wonders while learning
about healthy lifestyle options in each.
Visitors would be exposed to the world when passing through
time at the outset of the trip. This is in the shadow of one of the many energy
trees. Then there's the introduction of humanity and our insatiable appetite
for consumerism. This has resulted in a huge shift in the way the planet
operates, and it has occurred at a pace that is unsustainable.
Visitors then proceed to the big canopy with solar panels,
where they can play with the giant pinball machine, as well as the strong-man
striker amusements and fixed bikes.
The guests are then led on an unforgettable trip through the
rainforest and through the waters of the ocean, complete with 360o sensory
treats, before being faced with harsh reality. This will take you to the Sea of
Consumption Hall, where you will see the consequences of our consumerist
culture.
Visitors are asked several "would you rather"
questions at different points in the immersive collaborative educational tour,
allowing them to reflect on serious problems facing the world. The answers are
gathered at the numerous checking stations strategically placed along the
course, compiled, and then shown on a scoreboard. This encourages you to get a
sense of how the viewer feels about biodiversity and climate change. It allows
tourists to come to their own conclusions regarding the morality of the
situation and whether such a dramatic change is necessary. There's also a
Future Principles Facility with hydroponic gardens and dioramas showcasing a
variety of environmentally friendly options.
Terra also uses innovative drainage methods, such as recycling
grey water and reducing water use by 75%. It also includes technologies for
converting water from air and reducing carbon emissions.
After Expo 2020, the complete Terra Pavilion will be turned
into a Science Center. With over 200 countries expected to attend Expo 2020,
visitors will be able to see and learn about alternative approaches to Dubai Developers, as well as initiatives that provide viable solutions
to today's problems. Expo 2020 offers a worldwide forum for people all
around the world to interact, innovate, and be inspired. Expo 2020 will run
from October 1, 2021, to March 31, 2022, with two other thematic pavilions,
Opportunity and Versatility, expected to open shortly.
Terra Pavilion will open on January 22, 2021, with pre-sale
slots and tickets beginning at only AED 25. You will visit between the hours of
3 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and 3 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Fridays
and Saturdays. At any given time, 3000 people can be accommodated. This year's
instructional and immersive destination is a must-see. Are you able to immerse
yourself in a world of natural wonders and technological discoveries? I want to
see you there!
